East Park Dam & Reservoir

Located in the picturesque Mendocino National Forest, this remote lake and recreation area offers opportunities for motorized and non-motorized boating, swimming, picnicking, primitive camping, and great fishing year-round. Visitors can enter and camp for free, or just enjoy a day on the lake, watching wildlife and picnicking on the beach. While the reservoir does not offer any boat ramps, it does offer good boat launching areas with easy accessibility from the shore.

Fishing

East Park Reservoir is a fabulous, year ‘round destination for fishing and outdoor enthusiasts. The lake’s thriving fishery includes catfish, crappie, bluegill, largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass, especially in the autumn.

Transportation

The road to the reservoir is unpaved and can be dangerous for smaller cars. Driving a truck, SUV or a durable car with 4WD is recommended on the dirt and gravel road, especially during the rainy season.

FAQs

  • What kind of recreational activities are available?

The park offers a whole range of outdoor activities, including camping, boating, fishing, water sports, kayaking, hiking, picnicking, and nature watching.
  • What should I know before I go?

The park only offers primitive campsites with no running water or boat launch ramps. Be sure to pack a shade tent and plenty of sunscreen because trees are sparse. The wind does tend to pick up, so staking tents and easy-ups is a good idea. The west side of the park is open all year, but the southeast side of the reservoir is only open from mid-April through October.
